St. Paul's School

St. Paul’s School was founded in 1856 when George Shattuck established a school for boys in Concord, New Hampshire. Originally established on 50 acres of land, the grounds now comprise 2,000 idyllic acres, which include 25 miles of wooded trails, four ponds, and the upper third of Turkey River. These spaces facilitate respect for one’s spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being, and for the natural environment, all of which are central to the School’s mission.

The SPS academic program gives students a solid grounding in the fundamentals along with the flexibility to pursue varied and enriching electives. Students and their teachers work in collaboration – in discussion around Harkness tables, in laboratories, and in the field to investigate new and age-old questions. The core curriculum includes challenging courses in humanities, mathematics, sciences, languages, religion, and the arts. Inspired by exceptional faculty, St. Paul’s School students prepare intensively toward success in college, university, and career.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul’s community, helping all students prioritize their physical well-being no matter their athletic interests or skill level.

St. Paul’s School is one of the only all-boarding schools in the country. It is in the student houses that many of the strongest friendships are forged. One of the distinct features of our life here is the way everyone lives and learns together in community. Dorm life includes everything from Friday-night pizza feeds to watching movies in the common room to interacting with the faculty families who live in the apartments attached to your house.
