Like all educational institutions, Deerfield can evolve, improve, and build on the accomplishments of the past: We are fortunate in having strong traditions of engagement and a foundation of values based on equity and fairness that will see us forward and support future action. Even before I officially joined the Deerfield community, I was drawn to the Academy for its leadership role in national and international education; for its ethos and values; for the fact that for more than 200 years, Deerfield has been building its culture outward—from its defining strengths—resisting complacency and embracing thoughtful, studied change relentlessly focused on the quality of the student learning experience. The mission of a great school like Deerfield is never complete or finished; it is provisional, aspirational, and always in process. As one of our students—a member of the Class of 2021—recently noted with great wisdom and humility: “You can love Deerfield and also want it to be better.”

Your generation faces incredible challenges: climate change, food and water security, social inequality, and more. As insurmountable as these problems may seem, you have the power to impact the future. This responsibility shouldn’t be taken lightly—and it begins with asking great questions.

In Deerfield classrooms, we’ve got you covered: from English 200: Voice and Vision to Math 705: Linear Algebra, the depth and breadth of course offerings gives you the opportunity to enroll in classes that are appropriate to your abilities and interests. Throughout the school year sharing your work—in class, at School Meeting, in literary journals, and through artistic performances and exhibitions—is one of those Deerfield traditions that takes learning to the next level. Arts

Athletics

We are a member of the Eight Schools Association that includes Choate, Hotchkiss, Lawrenceville, Northfield Mount Hermon, St. Paul’s, Phillips Andover, and Phillips Exeter. We also regularly compete against Loomis Chaffee, Taft, Westminster, Avon Old Farms, Greenwich Academy and Nobles. In all our interscholastic sports we compete at the Class A or Division I level in New England Prep School Athletic Conference competitions.
